I actually painted this with the idea that it was going to be a very erotic painting. But my subconscious had other things in mind. I completed the faces first and fell in love with how uncomfortable it was to look at them. I was simply transfixed. I took that feeling and created a pattern work with inlay of gold in between the colors to cast her as the center of their attention.
